Curti
Does anyone know where I can buy a battery for an American Austin ( Maybe Bantam ) I tried NAPA and Batteries + with no luck.
Terry Bond
Hope there are some other Bantam owners here who can tell you what to use. If you are restricted by size that's the best way to search rather than asking for one that fits an American Austin (Bantam). That's probably not in their computer system. Curti
The A/B batteries are roughly 7 x 7 x 8.5 deep.
Mark Wetherbee
Would an optima battery fit angled in those measurements?

Mark Wetherbee
I remember dad’s coupe seemed to have a tiny battery box... hopefully you can find something that fits!
padgett
"A/B batteries " - that sounds like a radio battery. " tiny battery box" perhaps a lawn tractor or motorcycle.
TerryB
A good lawn tractor battery should do the trick. Most 6v motorcycle batteries are quite small as bikes with 6 volt electrics typically had kick starters.

There has to be hundreds of Austin Bantam cars mfg between 1930 and 1941 out there. What are they doing ??
padgett
OK, Zenith Transoceanic Radios with tubes use an A/B battery, 9 and 90vdc.

Marty Roth
I thought the Austin / Bantam used a standard 6 Volt Group 1 Battery: Length: 9.00"Width: 6.87"Height: 8.75" Edited September 15, 2020 by Marty Roth (see edit history)

AB-Buff
Curt The original Battery and the Battery we used to get from interstate was a 17HF that will help you get the right size. https://www.batterycentralmall.com/Batteries/TurboStart/Script/17HF.html Apparently the days of going to a battery place and picking one up are gone. MG uses two of theses in there cars so I am hoping someone continues to make one. Good Luck Lynn
padgett
If you give 17HF to google you get quite a few hits.
