1938 color code

Hi Tim,

Two sets of colors were offered depending on whether the car was built in Detroit or Los Angeles.

Maroon was not a color offered for 1938. The number you have posted, 1736 does not show up as a normal paint code number either. The only code beginning with "17" is 1768 Gunmetal. Is your number stamped clearly or could it have been misread?

If that is the correct number and the car was delivered in Maroon, it could have been a special order.

Were other car lines built in the same plant ? Could often get a "NA" color at GM if it existed in the same plant.

One of the other causes for a fight at a car show was a car with an option available only in a different plant.

Only if the owner does not have documentation, or if the Judges are the smartest people there..........

Getting back on topic what company manufactured the paint for the factory?
