1940 engine identification...

Recommended Posts

Evening all!   Looking for help figuring out an engine code for my Buick. Body is a 1940, engine code is 43811723 but is painted turquoise. As we are just starting to restore it, any information would be extremely helpful! Thanks!

Welcome, Lee

That is a 1940 engine number.  The first digit , in this instance 4, is for the Series,  40 series being a Special.  Post war , starting with 1946 the series digit was moved to the back, or last, place.

So 4  [Special]  3,811,723 is your engine number. 1940 first engine number was 3,786,214.    1941 was 4,074,859,

As for the paint? Just repainted some time along the way.

  Pictures?
