I'm wondering the same thing. Hard to tell with a somewhat visually underwhelming car like a '54 Chevy (no offense to owners...my grandad had a '53 and I loved it.) But you're right it's a nice looking car, condition wise.

 

Maybe people are starting to jettison the bargaining margin from the asking price to make the car more appealing during desperate times. They may be less willing to negotiate on the lower asking prices, though. Just a theory.

James, you break my heart!  I like 1954 Chevys almost as much as 1955s.  I guess it’s mostly nostalgia as I rode in many 54 Chevrolet cars as a kid.  Very popular car in my neighborhood.

I like the 1957 Ford better than the 1957 Chevy.  The 1954 Chevy is a very clean design.

Yes sir the 57 Ford Fairlane 500 2dr hardtop is a beautiful car. The 56 Mercury 2dr hardtop is my favorite.

As I said, I love the 53's and 54's of Chevrolet, but they're just more pedestrian than some other cars of the 50's. To give an analogy people love the looks of MGA's and people love the looks of Morris Minors, but one is just more dramatic and stylish than the other. I'd still love to have either a Morris Minor OR a '54 Chevy...more than a '55 Chevy, but '55 Chevys have a lot more market value than either of those because the '55 is thought to be stylish and such (I guess.)

I have a Mga and have had a Morris minor1000 ( mid wife’s car or British beetle 😀) reliable but terrible , completely different designs as you say and I can verify completely different driving experience , Mga great car 1600 quite nippy too .if you ever get the chance go for the Mga
