rocker adjustment and backfire

I recently got my 72 455 running and it backfires quite a bit. I noticed the last two lifters on the drivers side ( i don't know what piston that is) are pretty loose and the pushrod has a lot of play in it. My friend said that that would cause back fire, but how do i tighten the thing? Can this be my problem for back fire? thanks

You have either collapsed lifters, a wiped cam, or bent push rods. This will cause your back fire ,and the simplest check is to see if the rocker arms are moving. If they are, then pull the rocker shaft and check the push rod for straightness. If they are OK then you have collapsed the lifters.
