The 55er
Hello, I have a daily driver 1967 Riviera with a 430 engine and need to drop the oil pan to replace the leaky rear main crank seal. I've done this before on other cars but never on a Buick. It seems pretty straightforward after I remove the rear flywheel pan and starter and drop the steering linkage down. I will need to lift the front of the engine upward for clearance and the manual says to "raise engine by jacking under the crankcase pulley mounting". Where is this point exactly and where do I place the jack? How much will the engine have to be lifted? There's about an inch of clearance in there now between the frame crossmember & oil pan. Thanks for any help and suggestions.
PWB
I would not jack it as the jack will get in your way and potentially roll off and damage you or your engine. Rent a hoist and lift from above. Chock the mounts. Please be safe and post some pics.
The 55er
I have a hoist and will go about it that way. Thanks for the advice!
telriv
Once you jack the engine up put blocks of wood between the mounts & the frame pads. Now the engine CAN'T move. When done jack the engine up, remove wood blocks & lower. 2
