1938 distributor base plate movement

Hi all,

I have picked up a used Delco Remy distributor 1110801 which fits 1938 on Buick. I think from the other parts it came with it came from a 1947 Buick Special.

Thinking of trying it in my ‘38 but was wondering how freely should the distributor base plate move. Currently it seems to move a total of about 3/4 of an inch from its resting place. It does not appear to have any wear or indents were the three ball bearings are but it is not super smooth when turning the plate by hand.

The vacuum advance I’m unsure about but it does move the plate slightly and I don’t have a strong vacuum source ( I can’t suck that hard)

Any thoughts.
