Tank sending units are problematical. Mine (Dodge DC) is made out of a housing that fits, with a rheostat out of something with a variable speed control (e.g. heater, fan perhaps), and the inside tank frame and gear wheel arrangement was made from Mecano. I remade the frame in a single piece of steel bent up to suit but using the shafts and Mecano gear wheel. I made it up by making a template of the end of the tank and the location of the mount and working out the lengths of the mechanism frame and float arm so the arc the float moved through was from bottom (lowest part) to top of tank. I expect your DD sender will be the same as the DC one, so you should be able to find out the sender resistance range required by the dash unit for empty to full. I am still playing because it is not 100% yet. The rheostat is made in the shape of a circle with wiper attached to the actuating shaft. Note there must be no sparks or arcing!

Good luck!
