FireballV8
Hello I rebuilt the power steering pump in my 58 Buick and assembled it back in the car, but do not have any power steering. Does the pump need to be bleed in a special way? The shop manual does not list this particular issue. Did I make a mistake in reassembling the pump? Any thoughts of where I should look first? Any help is appreciated. Thank You Steve
dei
I'm no expert but it might have some air in it still. When mine leaks down after awhile it growls to let me know I need to top it up. Even then I have to turn both left and right fully to get the fluid through and the air out. Not sure if this helps or not. I'm sure others will chime in. old-tank
Why did you rebuild it? Did you rebuild a steering box too?
FireballV8
The car had a pump from 1953 on it and everything worked well. I had this one, but it was dirty and rusty, so I cleaned it up and replaced the seals and put back together. Maybe I assembled something backwards. any thoughts? Take it apart again and closely follow the service manual. Maybe it was taken out of service because it was inoperable. I thought it was a good idea to rebuild a a junk dynaflow and just quickly swap the original. i ended up pulling it 3 times and still had to use the original after a rebuild. FireballV8
That is a good point Willie. The later pumps are very simple and I had an aftermarket kit with great instructions as well as the shop manual to follow. Thanks
