That is a very tough call. I could make points either way going on your picture. Post war is towards the end of the painted shells, but the early 20’s seem to be when the majority of nickel shells started. Your picture is right on that cusp of indifference. So, if Maxwell had offered a plated shell and headlight rims in those years I would say it was plated, but I really lean towards it being very new and shiny black on a bright sunny day.

Thanks Guys, this picture is on eBay and it caught my attention because of the radiator shell. Maxwell didn't offer plated shells during this time period but I wondered if this was a show car or dealer installed item as I've found other period pictures of colors and bodies not listed in company literature of the time. I've also seen modern restorations where the shells have been plated but always assumed it was the restorer's idea of what they thought it should look like.
