Aussi John 1
Can anyone tell me what color the 6.00 -1, 157858 cylinder head should be on the 29 FE FH Presidents.
studeboy
Studebaker green. Spruce green. Really like a military drab green. There are people who sell it.
Aussi John 1
This is odd as the 5-1 head is engine color. 5.5-1 head is orange and the 6.5-1 is sky blue. Surely the 6-1 head is not the same color as the engine block.
Mark Huston
The engine is Studebaker green along with the standard compression head. If the engine has an optional higher compression head only the head is painted the color to identify it as a non standard compression head. So you could have a Studebaker green engine with Sky Blue head.
Aussi John 1
Hi Mark My head no longer has any paint on it. It is a 6-1 head. All the literature I have, quotes the cylinder head colors as 5-1 head engine color. 5.5-1 head orange and the 6.5-1 is sky blue. I can't find any info on the 6.1 head, the casting number is 157858
studerex
I once bought all the head prints from the museum. They listed the colors. I have never seen a president with a head other than green or red. I have done 3 speedway motors with the high compression head as red. I don't think any other color than the motor color green looks good. Surprising was the print for the 7 to 1 compression head. It said to use the head 157858 and mill off .050. Aussi John 1
Thanks Rex, that's good to know about the 7-1 head. It's still a mystery about the color of the 6-1 head.
