psychostang
I have a bracket, that I'm trying to identify. My neighbor picked this up several decades ago, and says its from a 65 Buick. Unfortunately he doesn't remember which model or engine. Doe's any recognise this engine bracket? Thanks
NC1968Riviera
Is there a part number stamped anywhere on the part? If it's a GM part, there should be a number somewhere.
Jim Cannon
It looks like a power steering pump mount to me. YMMV. Edited February 7, 2020 by Jim Cannon (see edit history)
NC1968Riviera
According to my Buick Parts manuals, this bracket looks like a 69-70 rear power steering pump bracket, part # 1385157; parts group 6.606. It should be applicable to 67-68 9000 series also, I would assume. Edited February 6, 2020 by NC1968Riviera (see edit history)
psychostang
Funny you should ask about a part number. I found this on the front. Looks like a 157 to me! Edited February 6, 2020 by psychostang (see edit history)
psychostang
Mike S: Do you know if this bracket was used on any earlier vehicles, maybe with the 300/340/350 series small block?
RivNut
I'll go out on a limb and say no. The bracket attaches to the head and the small block and the big block do not share heads.
psychostang
Ok. I was just talking with my neighbor, and he saiid that he doesn't remember when and where he got it from, but that the yellow paint that says 65 buick, was on it when he got it. RivNut
I looked back at the original post. If it did come from a '65 Buick, then it could not have come from a 400-430-455. That "big block" did not appear until the 1967 models came out. The Buick 350 came out around the same time. In the illustration that Mike posted, 50 = Lesabre, 60 = Wildcat, 80 = Electra, and 9000 = Riviera. The Lesabre came with a 350, the others came with the 430. The 65's were equipped with a 340 which was a completely different design. Hard to tell what you have based on what's been posted here. Ed
psychostang
I thought the 350 was just an overbore of the 340? Any how he thinks it came on his 1941 Cheverolet Special Deluxe. It was a hodge podge. No worries, I'll clean it up and see if anyone wants to buy it. 🙂
RivNut
The 340 is the biggest of the 215/300/340 design. That design was sold to British Leyland and is now in use in the Land Rover. Stretched to 5 liters now.
SBRMD
340 not available untill '66.

NC1968Riviera
16 hours ago, psychostang said: maybe with the 300/340/350 series small block I am going to agree with Ed and answer No. With your part having "157" stamped in it I think it is definitely for the Buick Big Block in the 69-70 years. Someone may want it if it's cleaned up! Best of luck!
