Morris Minor maybe. Around a million of those built from the 50s to 70s.

Definitely not a Morris. It looks French, small Renault or something similar.

I vote it's a Renault 4CV, an early one because of all those grille bars. Maybe 1949-1950-1951.

Many thanks to all of you who replied. I think based on pictures, it must be the Renault 4CV.  We would never have figured this out without all of you! Now, how in the world this car appeared with my mother is a mystery we'll never know. Thanks, again!

They were sold in the US for a while. Never as popular as VWs, but some people thought they were prettier and/or more civilized.
