Hans1965
Hi guys, I learned on FB that the wonderful white (or cream) steering wheels of the earlier 1940s years do not fit on 1949 Buicks. Is there any not too complicated way to make one fit? I assume you could change the whole steering column, box etc. but that's not my intention and exceeds my capabilities by far. I do not have such a steering wheel in my possession anyway, but before I chase one I am keen to understand if this endeavor has any chance. Thanks a lot. Best, Hans
Dan O
Hans - I agree the cream colored wheels are beautiful. I would think you could take a '49 compatible steering wheel and have it restored by one of those services in cream colored plastic rather than black. https://www.steeringwheelbob.com/ It would be simpler than swapping steering columns and probably cheaper. Hans1965
Hi Dan, just visited that website. Thanks a lot. I think it is reasonably priced there, although I have to say I love some patina on steering wheels. To me it is not only the color, but the whole style with the wonderful big horn emblem is fantastic.
