Steering pump shaft thread size 1st-G

Recommended Posts

Is the thread size of the 1st-gen steering pump (pulley) shaft 1/2-20 or another 1/2 pitch size?  I want to clean my shaft threads and don't want to choose the wrong die size; thanks!

We know it's a Riv. But what year as '63 & '64 are different than '65 as far as pulley's go although the thread size may be the same.

Try one of your lug nuts on the shaft. They are 1/2 x 20 (except for the driver's side on a 63 - those are LH thread)

'65 it is, and fairly certain that 1/2 is the correct diameter.  Many online vendors quote a 9/16-18 nut, but that's definitely too large.

Yes, I do believe your correct.  There's a lot of bogus information out there.

AND ALSO you shouldn't be using a thread cleaner die & NOT a regular die.  The clean up die is a few thousandths larger & doesn't actually remove any material from the threaded part, just cleans it up.

AND, Ed is correct about the lug nut as an easily identifying thing to do.
