Firstly, not mine, and worth several x my lifetime earnings, but F/S at a Worldwide Auction tomorrow:

Stunning photography and stunning car. The catalogue text says it fell into the ocean coming back from Catalina Island in the Thirties --- but shallow water allowed it to be recovered. I like the horizontal hood louvers -- evocative of Stutz and Peerless that year. Any guesses as to what it may fetch? I say 1.9.

That poor homely car has been around for a while and has changed hands several times in the recent past. Most recently sold last August for $737,000. It's at the auction in Saudi Arabia and I presume they're hoping for a rich oil sheik to pay stupid money for it, but I don't see that happening. I would take it back to its original Derham coachwork and get rid of that uncomfortable juxtaposition of art-deco moderne and upright box, but financially it would never make sense. But what does in this hobby?

There was a discussion of this car about a year ago with photos of it in its original configuration. Not as dramatic but certainly less homely.

It’s a well restored car, and well known in the Model J circle. It runs and drives great. It will be interesting to see what it brings at auction.

EDIT:

The car was NOT in the auction, it was in the Salon. I was told it did not sell.
