firewall oil cans

Recommended Posts

I've seen older cars (much older than mine ) that have an oil can mounted inside the engine compartment. Mines a 35 Buick and wondered if it would look wierd. It dose have some spring loaded oil caps, even one for the throw out bearing which I think is a good idea.

Are Mc Laughlin Buicks different from American Buicks?   My friend has a 1918 Mc Laughlin Buick . It has an oil can under the bonnet. His 1924  Mc Laughlin , if I remember, has a button pump mounted on the dash to oil the system.

That's pretty cool. I don't know about the old Buicks.I just finished mounting mine on the fire wall using a hose clamp and a sheet metal screw. I think it looks o.k.Greg.

Ford had them, model T and maybe model A.  Ford oil cans have the Ford script on them making them easy to identify.

My 35 Buick came with a sealed beam style light in a bracket on the firewall, with a long electrical cord for use as an emergency light.  I think it was a add on accessory, probably aftermarket.

My 1927 Cadillac has a similar mounting for the oil can. On the '24 it is still on the firewall :

Ford did not sell cars with an oilcan . They sold cans and the bracket.

Buicks came with firewall mounted oil cans for many years.

It would be interesting to know how many years this was done.
