Did that car have an engine? Yes, it was a Speedway Quarter Midget with a continental engine that my dad restored for my brothers and me. A bit misleading as the picture was taken on Christmas Day but it was on the opposite end of the room from the tree... First picture of me cranking it at a family friends house and their daughter in about 1961. Her mother is 95 still living in that house and we may recreate this later this year since it is near the Ohio Model T Jamboree location. Second picture is my wife on the Snappers Brass tour to Put-in-Bay last September waiting on the ferry. Last picture is me on the left with the President of Marblehead Bank during the same tour last year with the T nearly visible. We were maskless for the picture! My dad (in the picture), sent me off to college in late August with his reliable and practical Chevy Chevette, 6 years old with 46,000 miles as a good college car for his son. After being at school 5 or 6 weeks, in late September I traded the free car my dad gave me in for this, and just drove up into the driveway of my parents house for fall break. I purchased this car brand new off the Dealership show room floor back in August 1986.... as I recall, it was the last one on the lot and someone else had a deposit on it...... deal fell thru and the salesman called me up.....been in my garage since then. The Monte was the one that I could afford at the time.... when my Dad called the Insurance Agent, the Agent laugh at the cost to insure the Monte ( the insurance would of cost more than the actual car payments ) Dad ended up placing the Monte under his policy.... This one has not been repainted, and true to its purpose, has an extremely effective factory heater. It is of the exhaust heat exchanger type, and set the original owner back about $40, perhaps equivalent of around $800 in 2019 bucks. I do particularly love Nickel Era cars, and again, luck is on my side. I can have the two complimentary Cads for the price of one, had they been just a few years newer, or if, older, back in the Brass Era. - Cadillac Carl I thought it would be nice to share this quote from Carl, in his memory.
