In years past kids may have noticed that their senior year went by in a flash... this year it went by in a zoom.

If you don’t get it, have someone high school age explain it to you.

Life was slow in High School, seemed like 3:00 PM would never come.

Now it's where the hell did that year go?  (Except for 2020)

I though my parents were cool, but they never let me drive anything in the house!   Did that car have an engine?

Yes, it was a Speedway Quarter Midget with a continental engine that my dad restored for my brothers and me. A bit misleading as the picture was taken on Christmas Day but it was on the opposite end of the room from the tree...

Guess since this tread is still going I will weigh in on one of my cars, a 1911 Ford restored by my Dad in the early 1950’s. First picture of me cranking it at a family friends house and their daughter in about 1961.  Her mother is 95 still living in that house and we may recreate this later this year since it is near the Ohio Model T Jamboree location. Second picture is my wife on the Snappers Brass tour to Put-in-Bay last September waiting on the ferry. Last picture is me on the left with the President of Marblehead Bank during the same tour last year with the T nearly visible. We were maskless for the picture!  He is a customer of mine and car guy too.

Fall 1983....... I’m a Freshman at Wabash College. My dad (in the picture), sent me off to college in late August with his reliable and practical Chevy Chevette, 6 years old with 46,000 miles as a good college car for his son. After being at school 5 or 6 weeks, in late September I traded the free car my dad gave me in for this, and just drove up into the driveway of my parents house for fall break.   If you stare at the picture very intently and listen really hard you can hear my dad say “I raised an idiot”

LOL......my dad is in assisted living, not doing terribly great and we again talked about my brilliant trade in of the chevette for a 914 last time I visited him.  Sometimes when I think about something frustrating my kids have done, I remember a few things I did to my parents.......

That car was a blast to drive in rural indiana, wish I had it back.

I'm enjoying the pics, keep them coming........

I could see why your dad would be pissed.   But what a great trade!    In fact,  trading a Chevette for anything is probably a great trade,  except maybe a Pinto.

His critical error was putting the title to the chevette in my “important papers folder” to take with me to college.   We have the same first name.

My 73 TR-6 and me grinning despite weather.  Mid 1980s, rest stop somewhere in MA on a tour to a (now closed, I think) MG museum in Westminster, VT.  Drizzling and cold but we went anyway.

We logged a lot of miles in that little car!

Here is a picture of me with my '83 Hurst on March 27, 1983, the day after I picked it up brand new.

Thanks, Tim

Here is a picture of me with my 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS about a week ago...... I purchased this car brand new off the Dealership show room floor back in August 1986.... as I recall, it was the last one on the lot and someone else had a deposit on it...... deal fell thru and the salesman called me up.....been in my garage since then.

Nice Olds !!  When I was car shopping back in 1986, I was looking at the Olds 442, Buick GN and the Monte SS.... The Monte was the one that I could afford at the time.... when my Dad called the Insurance Agent, the Agent laugh at the cost to insure the Monte ( the insurance would of cost more than the actual car payments ) Dad ended up placing the Monte under his policy.... God Bless him !

Thanks Steve for the comment.  Like your nice '86 Monte SS, I purchased this off the showroom floor about 6 months after beginning my first "real" job.  Otherwise, I would not have been able to swing the payments and insurance.

Tough to find pictures I have not already posted. Harder yet with me in them. I think the one in Solvang, CA with the '27 has been on forum already. Those with the '24 in Seattle are new.

As most know, and certainly some do not, I have had the '24 for 30 years, the '27 for 6. They are unrestored originals, though the '24 was repainted decades before I bought it. The old Cadillacs run quite well, and I feel very lucky to still be able to drive them. Lucky also to have found the '24 on the other side of the country in Hemmings after looking for only about 3 years. I am picky, and originality is important to me. I call the '24 the "Summer Car". The closed sedan, the"Winter Car " took a search of over 20 years to find. Craigslist, just under 200 miles from me. This one has not been repainted, and true to its purpose, has an extremely effective factory heater. It is of the exhaust heat exchanger type, and set the original owner back about $40, perhaps equivalent of around $800 in 2019 bucks. I do particularly love  Nickel Era cars, and again, luck is on my side. I can have the two complimentary Cads for the price of one, had they been just a few years newer, or if, older, back in the Brass Era.   -    Cadillac Carl

I thought it would be nice to share this quote from Carl, in his memory. I’m sure he’s seeing lots of old car buddies and riding Cadillacs in the sky. 👍
