Chrisssssssss Posted October 12, 2019 Share Posted October 12, 2019 Hey all, I am having some thoughts towards my audio install in my 89 with the touch screen. I am gonna probably use an ipad or Mac (laptop or mini) for the source unit to feed the amps, but I was wondering what the signal input is to the touchscreen... Basically I was wondering what the signal format was so that if at all possible that I could output a different unit to dosplay on it. So for example I would be able to display the Mac output on the touchscreen. And vice versa if I would be able to take the output of the car computer unit that drives the screen and be able to either use a second display on it by tapping into the signal and connecting it to some input source (capture card or the like) and display it in a secondary window within the operating system on the mac. Is this at all possible? Or make a toggle circuit to switch from the display of the regular car operating system, or the Mac operating system... If it's a huge convoluted blah blah I don't know if I am super serious about this but if it's some sort of semi generic sygnal format that I could tap into and would be able to do this with no major interfacing and stuff... I may think about doing it. Would be kinda neat to somehow integrate new with old systems. Now getting the touch sensitivity to work in the Mac OS... hahaha Any thoughts? Red88beauty Posted October 13, 2019 Share Posted October 13, 2019 (edited) I do not know much surrounding the touch screen and I had toyed with different ideas about how to get my Reatta updated with Bluetooth. I haven't been a fan of the FM transmitters, but the one at the link below has worked extremely well with my 88 reatta. Mine defaults to channel 87.7, which worked perfectly, and I programmed preset button 1 on my GCC with this channel. The sound is really quite clear, and this unit has the option for an AUX cord, and an SD card along with Bluetooth and it was only around $17. It's really nice because you can control the volume on this transmitter, along with play/pause/forward/reverse tracks. This was the procedure to remove the outputs from the stock amp and wire in RCA from the pre-amp part of the factory radio module. I am running my modified stock unit to a 4 channel amp running all speakers and sub. This setup lets me run the radio as designed, I use Bluetooth FM modulator to send Music and Map audio when I want. Also this radio mod. will remove the factrory DNR limitations in the stock radio which is a bonus. I did not have good results using in the MP3 I had to the Cassette wiring, Not enough volume and no way to easily change tracks. I will try to see if I can find the Radio Mod write up. One suggestion on the transmitter, set your volume on the reatta GCC/Stereo as low as possible as this will minimize any FM / interference noises. You can then use the volume knob on the Bluetooth unit to get the clearest sound level (plus you'll minimize using your touch screen/volume). DAVES89 Posted October 16, 2019 Share Posted October 16, 2019 I just took an old cassette deck apart for the female plug and short wire harness, wired in a pin plug for my MP3 player. then I unplugged the existing cassette deck, plugged in my new harness with an extension lead run through to the cigarette lighter. Then when I want the MP3 to play I just turn on the stereo switch to cassette and hit play and I have music. To fuzz or anything. Also wired in a powered sub amp from kicker to the rear speakers and have great sound. Wired the Red/Black and the 'vert all the same so I can just pull the Kicker and my MP3 player and go from car to car with ease. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I was just driving today , listening to Grateful Dead radio on Spotify thru Bluetooth and still amazed how good my sound system is in this car. The sound separation beats my 2015 Mercedes.
