Question On 1960 Mercury Engines

Recommended Posts

My Dad bought a new 1960 Mercury with a 430 in it. What were the options for that engine, if any, and advertised horsepower in 1960?

According to the book Standard Catalog of Ford 1903-1998 2nd edition by Kowalke, pg 268, both the Montclair and Park Lane series both had the 430 as standard equipment and optional on the Monterey and Commuter series.  The 430 for 1960 was equipped with a 2 barrel Carter carburetor, 10:1 compression and a horsepower rating of 310 at 4100rpm.  Air conditioning, power steering, and power brakes were just some of the convenience options.

Thanks, my father really liked the car. I read that Lincolns and Thunderbirds were using the motor about then, and that there was a Super Marauder in an earlier Mercury with two 4-barrels and 400 h.p. It sounds like thatversion never made it to 1960.
