Removing AMC/Rambler 327 distributor

Recommended Posts

Found a 1966 Ambassador 4 door with a 287 that is on its way to the scrap yard. The body/interior is junk and many parts are missing so it is beyond restorable.

I have a '65 Marlin so I am taking some parts off before it is gone. One item I have been trying to remove is the distributor. Got the bolt out and clamp off (what a pain without the special wrench) and it doesn't come out. I have never taken one out but I would think it just pulls out or am I mistaken? I try to turn it back and forth but it only moves a little on the distributor cap, the shaft going into the engine doesn't move. Am I missing something on how to get it out?
