1937 Buick 90 Limited vin decoded

Recommended Posts

Hello to all, greetings from India.

A friend owns a 1937 Buick Series 90 Limited 7 seater, Right hand drive. The body tag is attached - I would greatly appreciate if someone can point me out to a resource for decoding pre-war Buick body tags?

Also could the car possibly be of Canadian production since Right hand drive? The car was dispatched new to Calcutta, India as a demonstrator.

Thanks and regards,

Karl

With a GM Flint body tag it is USA production.

GM Canada have a different style of tag and different numbering system

What is the engine number (near the distributor)

And we like photos.

Hi Karl,

 If I recorded the info correctly I interpret it as;

Style 37-4933  Series 90L Trunk Back (fenderwells)

Trim   334   Grey Broadcloth

Paint  504  Sudan Blue

The 90-L will have the division window behind the front seat. Karlosdeville, does the car have a division window? I'll bet it has an interesting history.

Thanks very much guys. Yes, it does have the partition intact. The engine number seesm to read 93245895.

The car was imported new to Calcutta as a demonstrator, and almost immoderately sold to a prominent local family who owned it till the 70s. The second owner sold it to the present owner in the 80s, the car really hasn't seen much use since then, but is in poor condition.

Do we have production numbers for right hand drive 90L cars? Couldn't have been too many I'd imagine.

Cheers

Karl

From http://www.classiccardatabase.com/specs.php?series=324&year=1937&model=2528

(This is not a good reference)

1937 91 1241 total production

1937 91F 158 total production

1937 90 1710 total production

1937 90L 965 total production

Some where there are better numbers/description but cannot find just now

In 1939 exported series 90 were 10% of total.  That would have been exported LHD & RHD

Engine number 9 3245895

9 = series 90

1937 320 ci engine numbers (60 80 90 series) from 3176225

1938 engine numbers (40 60 80 90 series) from 3396937

(ref BCA judging guide rev 2)

We like car photo's

Now found better information in the 2017 Buick Club membership roster

720 off 1937 90L and

125 off 1937 90L exported

That would have been LHD & RHD
