Can anyone identify what the red and yellow wire is for?

theres no wires close to it with that kind of plug

I would assume it is a 64 Buick by his Avatar and "handle", but I do know what assuming does to you and to me.

Ejection seat wire harness.  What is the year/model/engine?   Have you probed the wire connector with a test light to see if it powered?

Without going out and checking, it looks like it might be for the kick down switch.

It could be the cruse control which you do not have.

It's like that light switch in your house that doesn't do anything. I have one of those and just flip it up and down every few days. Last month I got a letter from a lady in Germany saying, "Knock that off."

but these things are not unusual in an era when standard wiring harnesss are less expensive than individually tailored ones. There is likely some option not included with your car.

My '65 Riviera has a similar plug, and it is for the cruise control.
