Spring Shackle Removal

Recommended Posts

Looking to get this apart and reuse it....Looks like the center bolt comes out and the shackle is "C" shaped, must have to remove the grease fittings?  Try to get the end plate off (grease zirk side?)? slowly tap out the "C"?  The center bolt looks like it is the only thing intended to remove/hold them together?

PS The end of the bolt broken off is the old bumper bolt, not a set screw.

Yes, the center bolt and plate hold it together.

Those are Tryon shackles, similar to the ones on my 32 Dodge Brothers DL sedan.

The large “washer” on the bolt adjusts the tension holding the two side pieces in place.  It’s not necessary to remove the grease fittings.

That is awesome!  Someone making something easy to service, those old guys were on top of stuff.  I am assuming the tapered weight bearing pins will drive out?  Sprayed them down with penetrating oil a couple days ago, if it gets under 100F I will try pulling them.  I am planning on reusing the springs...another job.

Thanks again, I hate holding 90 year old broken parts....learning
