Rear axle shaft bearing shimming 1930 GJ commander.

I’ve just had an axle shaft shear on my 1930 Studebaker GJ commander. I’ve bought a replacement and new taper roller bearings, and was wondering the procedure for shimming the preload. 

The manual I have is for a 1927 which is different. Those have a big nut which is set with .002” end float.

With the double taper bearings I don’t want too much load on them

but equally I don’t want them lose. 

Any help appreciated.
