Recommended Posts

Looking for recommendations for a good replacement (new) Holley carb for my 1957 312.

Thanks, Greg

In 1957, Ford had the following carburetor options for the 312:

(1) single Autolite type 4100

(2) single Carter type AFB

(3) single Holley type 4150

(4) dual Holley type 4000

(5) single Holley type 4000 w/supercharger

Thanks CK. All I have is this. I'm assuming it is the Autolite 4100. No tag and I don't see any stamped number anywhere. Looks like it's been through a fire. I am not too concerned with originality and the car won't be judged. The car will be a driver so I thought an easy and readily available upgrade would be a new Holley. Could you perhaps recommend a new one that could work in place of this carb without too much modification?

Thanks, Greg

Greg - it is a pretty grungy looking Autolite 4100.

I am the wrong person to recommend a Holley, will defer that to someone else.

If it were mine, I would get a quality rebuild 1958 or newer (since you are not concerned with originality) Autolite 4100, or better; I would modify a Carter to use.

Hi Greg,

I would go with a Holley 4160. That is what I have had on my car since I bought it 23 years ago. They work fine. The carb is pretty much the same as the 4150 except that except that they don't have an adjustment block for the secondaries. No big deal as far as I can see. They are available new and rebuilt from places such as Hills, Prestige, etc. It definitely fits the stock air cleaner.

Best regards,

Thanks Lew. That's just the information I was after.
