Ken Blackman
Hello All, I recently purchased a 1946 Continental Coupe and would like your advice on the following: 1) Any preference on fuel (regular or premium) 2) Any suggestions of fuel additives 3) Preferred engine oil weights/additives 4) Anyone out here on the West coast who can work on these cars (I am in Thousand Oaks, California) Thanks in advance. 19tom40
Your engine should be happy with regular gas. Seafoam is a good stabilizer and helps to control the water in the Ethanol fuel, lead substitutes are not needed. Use a good multi viscosity detergent oil. I use 10W 30 oil in my cars. JFranklin
Try to use non ethanol gasoline, fuel pump diaphragms melt with alcohol, rubber gas lines also. I believe the cash for clunker scheme was because cars were leaking fuel and catching fire and it was a way to mitigate liability.
stvaughn
If your intent is to be able to drive the car regularly you would be wise to replace all your fuel system rubber parts with new. Then you won’t have to stress out trying to find non ethanol fuel. Gates barricade hose is suitable for ethanol and new (not new old stock, NOS) fuel pump rebuild kits are also suitable.
