stakeside
While replacing the bearing on my 1929 3/4 ton truck I noticed what I believe is a date code. The code was 6 and a 31. The trans is a T71-1A and it appears the trans was not the original to my truck. The following is picture is from my owners manual. and this is from the ‘MASTER PARTS” book. I believe this to be the T71-1A trans that I have. The Master Parts book only list part numbers and type “Heavy Duty” or “Hi-Flex trans. Anyone have any information on these early trans? What trans are you using on your early truck? E Edited June 5, 2019 by stakeside E (see edit history)
Spinneyhill
It is an interesting idea to bolt the filler entry on the side in a separate plate. I wonder if that opening was intended to allow for a PTO or something? Or for 4 wheel drive? The picture from your manual shows the filler cap in the inset, but it doesn't look like it is in a bolted on plate.
Spinneyhill
What is really interesting is that the contents of that gearbox look pretty much the same as that in the Dodge car master parts list for DA-DC-DD-DE-DG-DH-DI. The DC-DD gearbox has nothing cast into the outside of it, though. I wonder if any of the internal parts are the same? Until we know what that gearbox is original to, it is pretty difficult to compare without parts in hand.
stakeside
Here is the rear main bearing assembly. This definitely matches the Plate 88 picture which is a diagram of the T71-1A trans.
stakeside
The plate on the side with 4 bolts has the oil filler nut. Not a PTO on mine. Edited June 6, 2019 by stakeside E (see edit history)
Sactownog
what would you guess the price of a stock 3 speed transmission out of a 33 dodge would sell for?
30DodgePanel
According to Hollanders anniversary edition dated 1938 T141 transmission case is for the following: Dodge Brothers Cars: 1927-1928 model 124 & 128 1928 Victory 1928 Standard 6 Dodge Brothers Trucks: 1927-1928 1/2 ton (SD model? it doesn't say what model but I'm sure it's the SD) 1928-1929 SE SEW & SEF 1/2 tons 1928-1929 DE DEW & DEF 3/4 tons T71-1A transmission case is for: late 1929 into 1930 model DA120 1930-1931 U124 and DA124 You may need other 120" instruction books and parts lists books to sort it out if you are putting together one truck using two different frames as you are doing. I believe this along with a build card for both frames will give you all your answers you're looking for. Hope this helps.
stakeside
Thanks for summary Dave. Does anybody have a side view of the T 141. I would like to see the comparison. I believe the side view in my DB owners manual to be a passenger car trans or is it the T 141. Note the shape of the bell housing. It is flat on the bottom. 30DodgePanel
If no response here you may want to create another thread in this DB section asking the DB passenger car guys if they recognize it or if they would be willing to share scans of their parts books. Maybe word the thread something like "DB Passenger Car Transmission ID HELP NEEDED" and I'd bet you'd have better success. Just my opinion... I say that because I often wonder if car guys on here that see the word "truck" in the heading may just pass on by and not read it. I seemed to recall a guy named Rich on here that has a 124 or 128.. maybe he'll see it and chime in. He was very willing to share scans from his parts list book in regards to the 1/2 ton truck that I had previously.

Or, Do you have any photos of your case from a side view showing the numbers ? Looks very similar except for the top cap. Not sure where it would be on the T141. My guess would be on one of the sides somewhere similar to the original photo in post #1 of the T71 tranny. Thanks for your input Rich. Helpful as always 👍 Edited June 14, 2019 by 30DodgePanel (see edit history)
RichBad
Ok, checked my case and couldn’t see T141 or anything similar. Couple of numbers but probably casting numbers?
