ski.dive
How much will a shop charge $, to convert from r12 freon to 134a on a REATTA?
Barney Eaton
Not a simple question...........I would not change unless you are replacing the compressor, and accumulator/dryer. The oil used by the two refrigerants are not compatable........so the R12 oil must be cleaned out. The compressor and accumulator dryer hold most of the oil and it might take a shop 1-2 hours just to flush the system. If your system is in good shape.....find some R12 and stick with it until you need a compressor.
padgett
There are oils compatible with both now. I'd still flush first then make sure it will hold a vacuum overnight. 134A also need a different orifice tube. Anytime you open a system you should also replace the dryer. If nothing else is needed probably two or three Benjamins. Edited June 4, 2019 by padgett (see edit history)
