Cliff F
Hello everyone, I’m brand new to the forum. I have a 1949 Plymouth DeLuxe and had it up on the hoist yesterday. It would appear that I have a crack in my exhaust header. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket source for these parts? Any help would be much appreciated. Matt Harwood
I just plugged "Plymouth 218 exhaust manifold" into Google and got a few dozen hits with a selection of aftermarket tubular headers, vintage cast iron headers, and stock manifolds. It appears that the aftermarket parts will require a custom exhaust system, either dual exhaust or some kind of Y-pipe. Some might recommend welding it--don't bother. It won't hold (this is where someone inserts a story about having something welded that lasted for decades, which is the exception rather than the rule). You'll spend a few hundred dollars and dozens of hours removing, installing, and re-removing and installing a new manifold. These aren't particularly scarce, you should be able to source a good one without too much effort and for not a lot of money. Hope this helps. JACK M
Nothing compares to the AWSOME sound of a split exhaust of those old sixes.
