1926 master distributor question

Recommended Posts

The guy who had my car before replaced the distributor with a Delco unit out of an allis.   it has centrifugal advance. Did the original one have this?  I am trying to use the lever on the steering wheel  but can’t get the timing to settle down.  Any advice in this area will be  appreciated thanks

Tom:

Yes the original does have a centrifugal advance. My 1925 Master has an adapted later Delco unit from an IHC engine. It works fine. And much cheaper points, cap rotor etc. to boot!

Remove your distributor cap.  When you turn the rotor, you should feel spring tension and it should be able to rotate 10-15 degrees.  When you let go it should spring back, and if you turn it 1/2 way it should spring back.  Are the springs doing their job?
