Oregon Desert model 45 Posted April 17, 2019 Share Posted April 17, 2019 Alex Buick made many changes to engines for years 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926 and only a small numbers of parts will interchange between these years. Oil pumps might interchange for some of those years, but lower cast crankcases changed almost every year. Please specify which year your engine is, or if you are not certain, post some photos of it and we can help figure out what you have. 1926 and 1927 might have had fewer changes as the earlier years did, and thus be the most interchangeable years. 1924 and 1925 Master crankcase can be swapped, but since the cast water pump mount moved locations, you will have to find the matching water pump for that particular year. Kevin Hi Kevin! First of all thank you for your reply. I have attached some photos of my car and his engine. This car was given to me in the condition you see. An oil pump and a crankcase weren´t fitted on the engine. I would like to buy an original crankcase and an oil pump in any condition which I could repair. Oregon Desert model 45 Posted July 27, 2019 Share Posted July 27, 2019 Alex Your Buick appears to be a 1924 model 44 Roadster, probably a 1970's era restoration based on the color scheme. The photos you attached of missing parts are correct, but it's the oil pan (not the crankcase) and oil pump. Also the distributer has broken off, leaving the bottom stem stuck inside the Starter Generator end casting, circled in below photo. The water pump might also have some rust thru areas. The oil pan was probably removed to investigate something, (low oil pressure, engine noises, or ?) so you should perform thorough check of bearing clearances, clean out oil passages, clean roller lifters, check timing gears. Old oil can harden and plug up the pressure oil feed system. Now we can narrow down the years of interchangeable parts. Oil pan: 1924-1925 Master. I do not know if 1926 will interchange. Oil Pump: 1924-1928 Master according to parts book. Distributer: 1922-1925 6 cylinder models. 1925 distributers were made from aluminum which often cracked, swelled and broke apart. Complete motors do occasionally come up for sale on this site, and tips for working on these parts can be found on Buick - Pre War Technical section. There are several of us that have recently completed engine work on 1925 Buicks and have posted a lot of helpful information that should help you get started. Since I have this car, I have been studying the parts carefully, I have read almost all the messages in this forum. What happens, that in Spain where I live, or in all European Union, I can not find the missing pieces. More than a year always every day I am reviewing all sales announcements, and there is nothing! I am willing to buy these pieces in a state to fully restore, (even copy, make new), for this I need original, since from the photos it is impossible to take the correct measures.
