1965 Riviera Sighting On Barrett-Jackson Today

Recommended Posts

Just watched a 1965 Riviera Gran Sport cross the block at Barrett-Jackson. Not completely stock—the white letter Radial T/As were a little jarring. "Onyx Black" (obviously not original color) with what is claimed to be the original black vinyl interior. Stated to have 70,803 miles, it went for $50,000 plus buyer's premium.

Too cheap to rechrome the air cleaner so it's painted silver. Surely that would raise a flag.

I rarely understand the choices sellers make when they cheap out. Do you think it's a real Gran Sport?

It looks like a small emblem car as well.  A few liberties have been taken but if it is a legit GS, it wouldn’t take a whole lot to take it to the next level.

Probably a different paint color from factory:

"It’s been refinished in Onyx Black over its original black interior"

But who knows. The cryptic language on the auction block.

Engine compartment looks liberally sprayed with Satin Black to cover all sins.  Including the body plate on the firewall.  Also the A/C compressor seems to be missing....
