If that is all that is wrong I would try a coat of Seal All or similar gas proof sealant. If you have some leftover gas tank sealant that would be good. Maybe even some JB Weld. Although I would prefer not to use an epoxy product because it will make it harder to take out the plug for a rebuild or replacement.

Why not just remove the leaking plug, clean it's seat and install a new one.  It's been done tens of thousands of times.  Easy as pie.
