How to remove - cover Scratches on New Car Rubber Dash

Recommended Posts

I own a 2016 Toyota Highlander and my wife put her purse on the dash on the passenger side . The zipper parts on the purse left faint scratches in the rubber - plastic dash . I was told Armour All is had on the dash . Any pointers Thanks

The short answer is not really, without causing a different type of defect, like a shiny spot.  Whether it is technically a scratch or a mar (has to do with the shape of the damage) you've displaced some of the polypropylene in the plastic matrix.  It's like the scuff you get on a lower door panel.  There are some industrial products sold for hiding flow lines in molded plastic parts that might mask this.  Do a search for injection molding supplies, I think a company called Stoner is one supplier.

There are places that do this in the US. I had a slice in my Tundra’s console top and you can’t tell it was ever there. Ask an rv, auto shop or an apholstory place in your area for a referral.

There is a big difference between repairing a  thermoformed vinyl skin used over foam, a TPO skin over foam, an sewn panel armrest and a hard PP panel (leather is very rarely used on a dash).  What's in the  Highlander?  Is it soft or hard?

Thanks Victoria Lynn , Plays with Brass for the leads . There is a Fibre New in the Toronto area that is close to me . The company Color Glo looks like they do a great job also . The dash is semi soft not rock hard and it is right by the air bag on the passenger side . Terry B you are right I should get her to buy me a new car . Except I would have to pay for it .
