1939bcoupe
Hello, can anyone help me with finding a steering wheel puller for a 39 Special. I've tried O'Reillys, etc. and the pullers they have do not fit. Thanks, Frank
Tom_S
Not familiar with the 39, but I had to remove my 36 steering wheel when I recently rebuilt the steering box. I used a cheap multi purpose steering wheel puller purchased years ago. It has slots in in for bolt placement and a number of different bolts depending on the thread size Don't know why any common steering wheel puller would not work on yours. Here's one from Harbor Freight https://www.harborfreight.com/bolt-type-wheel-puller-set-62620.html?cid=paid_google|*PLA+-+All+Products+-+Higher+Sales+Items|New+Products+-+(2)+Price+%2410-30|62620&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&mkwid=sl5mAxOZd|pcrid|278918170779|pkw||pmt||pdv|c|slid||product|62620|&pgrid=57009142739&ptaid=pla-489589369912&pcid=1458484684&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7uyE2t6Q4QIVElqGCh2MlAdQEAQYBCABEgIxGvD_BwE

Bob H
I think that the jaws of the puller are the problem rather than the device. Have to look but I ground a carriage bolt head to a shape that would go into the odd shaped holes in the steering wheel hub. I can dig them out, take a picture, and send it to you but you will probably have solved the dilemma by then. An old wrecking yard trick we used to use when no puller was available: remove the nut, crank the wheel hard over and hold it firmly against the stop, and try to hammer the wheel off with your fist. Doesn't always work but often enough that it is worth trying. I see that we are almost neighbors. I am in Rainier, Oregon but have family in Sacramento we visit fairly often. I mention this because I am deep into the restoration of a 1939 Special convertible and have accumulated a lot of parts that would be available to you without paying freight. Spinneyhill
If it is just a generic puller that you don't screw into holes in the wheel hub for pulling it, make your own! Here is @Taylormade's for his 1932 Dodge Brothers:
