MochetVelo
My Overland used a 3/16" rope seal around the oil pan. I tried rubber O-ring material, but it won't conform to the tight bends. Where can I find rope gasket material? All I can find is high-temperature fiberglass/ceramic materials for boilers, etc. Phil Edited March 16, 2019 by MochetVelo (see edit history)

Bill Harmatuk
Goretex, rope. Probably 1/4 0r 5/16. I used to use it on anything from steam flanges to huge pump casings and oil reservoirs in Pulp and Papermaking / machines / and equipment. Has sticky tape on one side and flattens into a gasket. It is a white teflon type material. I have some 1/8 inch rope that I use for packing sink and outdoor water valves. Hope you find it. Good stuff. McMaster Carr has it. MochetVelo
Thanks. I don't see any at Restoration Supply except water pump packing. McMaster packing seals mostly have a square-profile, and are made of PTFE , Aramid, etc. The PTFE Gore packing (97765K13) costs $82 for 16 feet. Any specific product I should buy? As I say, it must conform to the sharp corners. Would just a woven cotton rope work? Phil
HarryLime
Felt weather strip adhesive backed. Or neoprene foam strip. Many shopping choices.
cahartley
Use plain old graphited braided rope packing. It's much cheaper and works just fine.
MochetVelo
I found some potentially good material by searching "3/16" packing seal" on Amazon. I got some with wire and graphite and some plain. I could find any regular cotton rope seal, but perhaps it was just cotton rope. Phil
