New to me 1949 Plymouth Suburban

My great grandma bought the vehicle brand new in 1949. As I was growing up we used it for a fishing/farm vehicle. It has been sitting under a shed for years but once every few months I crank it up and let it run and it always fires right up. My great grandma unfortunately passed away 3 years ago and she left me the Plymouth. I have so many memories in this vehicle and want to restore it back to its original glory. I have not had much time to mess with it the last 3 years and the brakes need to be replaced on it and also the rims and tires. Any help on finding the info on the best tire size/wheel option to put back on it and any info on where to find brake parts for it as well? I’m going up this Sunday (weather permitting) to look at it and hopefully figure out what all needs to be replaced on the brake system. One more question I had is what were the original paint colors back then on these vehicles?

thanks,

Jeremy

You will NOT find brake shoes on the chat room -- with NO parts -- known as rockauto -- and all their linked in companies have the chinese wheel cylinders....

If you need the Master Cylinder, All 6 wheel cylinders, the Brake Hoses, and NEW ++ Asbestos ++ Brake Shoes ---- and a whoooooole lot more ----

All U.S.A. made - including Water Pump and Fuel Pump ++ BRAND NEW ++ etc., etc.

Always best to simply call me --- Craig -- 516 - 485 - 1935..... West Hempstead, New York...

Post some photos too.  We love photos even of needy cars.

I believe that's the first year Plymouth had an all steel wagon and I even think still made a woody version as well.   The only year they did that.

Nice thing is the grille and much of the exterior moldings are stainless steel and can be polished to new condition which most people can do, unlike chrome plating which requires a shop to do.

I had a 49 2 door club coupe.   Drove it for a summer right after high school.  Got lucky and replaced many of the small chrome parts with ones from a western car for little money on a trip out west.   I still have a pair of bumpers hanging in the garage.  Though your rear bumper would be different anyway.

When you do the brakes go DOT 5 silicone brake fluid and you won't have to do them again.  It's a fraction of a cost of the job.  Since you will have the whole system apart it's the best time to convert it.  You will also I believe need a special puller for the rear brake drums.   There are many threads on pulling them and what they look like.
