RivNut
I was looking for code number to answer a question that had been posed and looked at this chart from Teambuick.com In looking at the '66 codes, it states that "425 V8 Gran Sport and Riviera" were equipped with the BS transmission. Does this mean that all '66 RIvieras have the same transmission as the '65 Gran Sport? YEAR APPLICATION CODE 1964 300 V8 LeSabre BU 401 V8 column shift BJ 401 V8 console shift BK 425 V8 column shift BL 425 V8 one carb console shift BN 425 V8 two carb column shift BP 425 V8 two carb console shift BQ 1965 300 V8 LeSabre BU 401 V8 3.07 axle BJ 401 V8 Riviera (3.23 axle) BR 425 V8 4bbl. carb 3.07 axle BN 425 V8 3.23 axle BT 425 V8 two carb 3.07 axle BO 425 V8 two carb Riviera (3.42 axle) BS 1966 340 V8 LeSabre BU 401 V8 BR 425 V8 Grand Sport & Riviera BS 425 V8 all others BT
psychostang
I believe they are referring to the 1966 Buick Riviera Gran Sport, and also 1966 Buick Wildcat Gran Sport. JZRIV
No definitely not all Riviera's in 66. Only the GS got BS.
RivNut
Except for the 65 and 66 Gran Sport BS coded transmissions, is there any real differences other than gear ratios for the rear ends or linkages for column vs console shift? psychostang
The BS coded trans are supposed to be a little bitter stronger. I don't know of any other internal differences.
telriv
WOT shifts are a couple hundred RPM's higher. They AREN'T stronger.
RivNut
I thought the BS had higher shift points as well as firmer shifts. What I'm curious about are difference between the BS and all the others. Do all the others have the same valve bodies? I imagine some differences are speedometer drive gears for different rear end ratios and linkages for different shifters, but what about valve bodies? telriv
As you know '64's are by themselves. "65 & '66 the governor is set to shift at a slightly higher shift point & the separator plate the two holes that pass the fluid to the clutches to fill faster are slightly larger by about .020" for a firmer shift. RivNut
I understand that. So let's concentrate on the 1964's only. What would be the difference between the BN and the BQ. BN is the console shift single four barrel 425; the BQ is the dual four barrel 425. What's the difference between the console shift 425 and the column shift 425? jsgun
As an aside, does anyone know if the TH400 dipsticks fit the 64 ST400's? The handle broke off mine.

telriv
ALL '64-'66 dipsticks & tubes are identical. Again, 2x4 shifts higher & firmer.
