lrlforfun
OK Buick People: A quick question. Was Comfortron A/C offered on a full size 66 Buick. I know all Cads had it and I've seen it on some Pontiacs too. I'm wondering about Buick. Thanks, Mitch Edited February 8, 2019 by lrlforfun (see edit history)
Thriller
I’ve never seen that logo / name anywhere on my 1966 Wildcat. It has A/C, but perhaps there were more than one option. Mine’s a Canadian car as well, which sometimes show some quirky differences.
NTX5467
"Comfortron" was the automatic a/c system. An upgrade from the normal "manual" a/c. Should have been on Buicks as it was on every other GM carline back then. Many dealers might not have ordered it for their "stock units" as it might have been considered troublesome and/or hard to fix. All it would have taken was ONE bad experience with it for them to talk anybody wanting to order that option out of it. Depending upon the particular market demographics, many could have figured they would move the levers and punch the buttons themselves for les money? Probably a higher installation rate on Cadillacs than other carlines, I suspect. The additional cost would not have been as much of a factor, possibly, and it made a Cadillac more "ultimate" in the process. Similar on a '65 Caprice 396 4-dr hardtop, or a Bonneville 4-dr hardtop, where a "Cadillac level" option could have been a selling point to some buyers. NTX5467
I found the pre-'72 Buick parts book online at www.wildaboutcarsonline.com, the 9.000 section with the a/c stuff at 9.798 group. The earliest mention of "Auto A/C" was in various parts listings for 1966 Buick 50-60-80-90 series cars (LeSabre-Wildcat-Electra 225-Riviera). So, apparently 1966 was the first model year for Harrison/GM Comfortron on full-size Buicks? NTX5467
JZRIV
Yes at least on the Riv. My car has it.
