1940's Belly Tank Lakester

Recommended Posts

Built from a drop tank. Looks to be well done. Nice photos and video. Part of me would want to take it apart and make each piece concours, reassemble  and even polish the tank. The other part of me says the patina is perfect as is, and it would be a crime to do anything cosmetic. Anyhow, somebody is gonna have a blast with this. Enjoy!

That is way cool.  If I had the $$, it would come home with me.   Got to be a way to add a radiator and run longer than a few minutes.

It has a radiator, holds 6 gal. water, and has a temp gauge. I think the problem would be the 2 gal. fuel tank.

The web site says that it sold for $103,000. I liked it a lot, but not THAT much, lol. Makes me feel real good about my Indycar.

I think it has a 6 gallon water tank in lieu of a radiator. As the water in the tank heats up that, in conjunction with a 2 gallon fuel tank, would limit running time.

I suspect that back pain may be the reason for short trips.

The article  says it was reportedly built to El Mirage.. Where ells would you run it, on the streets of LA?  At a 100K the speculative history makes no sense and without true history is just another ice sculpture.
