stvaughn
I have to remove the head on my 1932 REO Model S 230 ci engine in order to have some cracks repaired. I’m not sure how difficult this will be on an engine this old. I’m thinking of loosing the acorn nuts and squirting some Kroil around all the studs for a day or so. If it’s stuck what’s the proper way to loosen it up?
Guest
Drain the engine, loosen the nuts one turn, squirt your favorite (or 50/50 ATF/acetone), leave for half a day and then start the engine for a second or two.
Grimy
AND...find two old take-apart spark plugs and remove the electrode and insulator. In each of the spark plug bases with 7/8 thread, install the largest (probably 3/8-inch) machine-thread eye bolts with nuts below the bottom of the base and the eyes above the bases. Install these lifting devices into #2 and #5 spark plug holes. Use a cherry picker engine hoist and an engine-tilt attachment to attach to the eyes. Apply lifting pressure against the head. stvaughn
Thanks for the replies. I’ve already drained the fuel but if spinning it over dry won’t budge it I can spray a little fuel in the carburetor.
