39 coupe trunk problem

Hoorah,  problem solved, I switched the supports which reversed the spring action.  Life is good.  Thanks for all your help.  The  latching mechanism works on one side only.  Small little piece inside that sticks out of small hole on slider is gone.  May have to get new support.  Do you know of any available.  It  would be for the driver side. It does matter which side for spring to work properly.  Thanks again!

Frank

Some info for you about trunk lid supports:

https://www.fillingstation.com/detail/6013/Chevrolet_193740_COUPEZINC_DECKLID_SUPPORTS.html

Appears the supports are out of stock but they will notify you when available,  Part GR-158 $165.00 per pair.

Hope this helps.

Great, Chevy and Buick use the same supports?  They definitely look the same.

Thanks,

Frank

Makes me wonder if my '39 model 81 is missing some trunk components. Mine has no springs and only one sliding lock bar on the left side that operates as expected. (holds trunk door open, lift trunk door slightly to disengage locking mechanism.) But the trunk will drop hard if you don't lower it by hand.

Model 81 = Fisher style 394819

Group 13.326 part 4082900 Support Assembly, Trunk lid for 394819 & others for 1938 & 1940

Group 12.238 part 4085735 Spring, Trunk lid com for 1938, 1938 80-90

(com maybe cam = burred text in repro manual)

I am away from my model 41's (Fisher style 394419) so cannot check mine.

Series 41 & 61 have different support & spring numbers

Series 46, 46C & 66, 66C have different support & spring numbers

The 2 door and 4 door cars have different trunk counterweight spring/supports. The 2 door trunk lit is a whole lot heavier that the 4 door one.
