One side goes to the bleeding screw on the caliper or wheel cylinder and the other side goes to the vacuum pump be it be a hand pump or electric. Looking at the picture, I would guess the black end would go to the cylinder/caliper and the port that has the black adapter would be connected to the vacuum pump.
