TIME TO CHANGE THE DATE

LOVE FALL HERSHEY - HATE THE BAD WEATHER. IT IS PAST TIME TO CHANGE THE DATE FOR THIS EVENT. JUST BECAUSE "WE'VE ALWAYS DONE IT THIS WAY" DOESN'T MAKE IT THE BEST WAY. WE NEED TO CHANGE THE MINDSET OF THOSE UNREASONABLE INDIVIDUALS ON THE BOARD WHO MAY BE BLOCKING THIS VERY SENSIBLE CHANGE. IF THEY CAN'T SEE THE NEED FOR THIS CHANGE, I SUSPECT IMPAIRED JUDGEMENT CAPABILITIES IN ALL AREAS AND QUESTION THEIR ABILITY TO SERVE ON THE BOARD.

I have a couple of general questions for you.... Have you served on the board or attended any board meeting ? If not, how can you question their judgement ?

Have you helped on Hershey or been involved in the planning ? Maybe they are locked into a date by Herco ? How would you know if you haven't been involved ?

The dates are based on when the land is made available from HERCO, not by AACA or Hershey Region. If you ever were at Hershey you would know that the theme park is closed when we are their. Why do you think they have expanded the park and the lots that we use? Answer, to park cars from the people who go to the theme park. Try going on a summer day and you will see plates from all over.

Here is another reason, Some of us live a long way away

and yes some of us still have children in school. To go would have to go by self (not likely), Take kid out of school for a couple weeks(even more unlikely)

or just stay home. If held during the summer could make a family vacation out of it and greatly increase the chance I would be there and I am sure I am not alone in this predicament

About 10 years ago Hershey Region looked into moving the event to Indiantown Gap onto a former airbase, but the cost would be prohibitive for purchse and the inferstructure needed.

Anonymous:

Bill Stoneberg hit the nail on the head.

SalG described the facts.

I must interject probably the same points I do every year as this subject comes up every year:

--HERCO owns the property. As Sal said, the park is closed.

--Hershey Region is the show's sponsor, not the National Directors I assume you were alluding to in your comments. The AACA Natiional Headquarters, it's Officers and Directors DO NOT run Fall Hershey.

--Someone posted a year or two ago trying to get Hershey moved to the Midwest and elsewhere. I'll say it again. Hershey Region started this event and it grew, and, grew, and, grew.

If you want "Hershey" per say, moved on the calendar, or, move the event, forget it. You start your own Region event, work hard, and, grow it, grow it, grow it...

--Reminds me of truck drivers complaining, complaining about a road construction project that takes years to complete. However, when the old two lane is expanded to 4 lanes, the job completed, NEVER do you hear any driver, for that matter, be as vocal to THANK the workers that made it enjoyable.

In "Fall" Hershey, I have not heard anyone say how nice it was the last 2 years when the weather was nice. No complaints. Go figure...

Mike said it clearly that no one can predict the weather.

Look at Macungie this year when the humidity was absolutely oppressive. Yet, People showed up.

I don't think "Hershey" could ever be moved from Hershey! The event has gotten so big there is not another area/place to hold something like this except for Hershey. You might be able to get away with it in York, PA but would have to downsize the event to a degree. They could have the swap meet and possibly the car corral at the York expo center and the car show at a local Hotel Parking lot.. but I don't think anyone would want to leave Hershey since it basically has everything right there!! I agree the weather is a concern and I feel bad for the vendors.. I am just glad I got there yesterday! A summer Hershey would not work at all since Hersheypark is in full swing and Hershey is supposed to be "FALL HERSHEY".

This is my 34th Hershey and the weather has been nice more often than wet. I suspect those who complain about the weather would find something to complain about regardless. Accept Hershey for what it is...the largest family reunion in the world! It's all fun..I even miss the mud in a sick, perverted sort of way. And please don't change the location..I can sleep in my own bed, get up at a reasonable hour, shower, have a coffee, drive to Hershey and still be in my spaces by 8:30...guess I'm spoiled.
