New Years Drive today in the 1929

Here in Northern California the nights are around  31 with a high of about 50 degrees.  With a storm forecasted for the weekend I decided to get the 1929 Studebaker President out for a New Years drive today.    Headed up into the foothills and put about  60 miles on the Studebaker.   The day was perfect for driving in the hills on quite back roads.

Mark, what is a comfortable touring speed for your Studebaker?

My President drives very nicely at 55 mph.  I could cruise all day with no sweat at that speed.   When I am on back roads I keep it between 45 and 50 so that I can enjoy the drive.   When I get on a busy two lane I kick it up to 55-60 with no problem.   The President has a 336 straight eight with 120 hp.

A couple of unseasonably pleasant days, New Years Eve, and the 1st itself, gave me an unusual opportunity. Got ready to go on N.Y.E. Then, on the 1st, I went. Had fun yelling "Happy New Year" to the people in the neighborhoods as they smiled and waved. Got some good laughs as I tickled the Klaxon. You guys know the varied sounds those things can make. Anything from a lovesick quacking duck, to the weird groans, to a full-on 1920s roar, the classical ah-OOO-ga. I only stopped to put ethanol free gasoline in it, thus only fueling pictures. I can give a picture or two of the last Winter 2018 drive by way of apology.   Happy 2019!!    -   Carl

Add "days" to the 1st sentence, "Then" to the 3rd (see edit history)
