2019 - 2,019 Mile Challenge

Recommended Posts

Fueled up tonight but forgot to get a picture.  Still, adding  120 miles to my total, landing me at 1,219 miles so far.  Been driving the other cars more frequently the last few weeks, but was happy to get back in this one, fire it up, and just go, without much ado.  Seems to run much better with the new steering wheel ..😏

Took a road trip to drop off a seat back for repair for my Roadmaster rag top and have lunch at a place I have not been to in years.

Erieau has developed into quite a lake side resort community and will have to do it again soon.

When I go back for the repaired seat back I will for sure be having the craft beer served today.

With a good lunch it was time to head back.

IMG_5754.thumb.JPG.801ef6ff79755e7215a8aaa8fe0b0dbc.JPG

Perfect top down weather and light traffic made for a great day all round.

IMG_5761.thumb.JPG.0449898f9b4114008cdc43820157b683.JPG

Of course spending an hour inside the restoration shop seeing works in progress helps too.

Getting ready to roll the trip odometer over for the second time this year. The 2019 challenge is

within reach.

Labour Day Weekend was full of Car Events and Monday was very close to home so naturally had to attend.

We set up early as it was going to 85 and sunny out.

Then we all went over to the evening Cruise-In where I had to put the top back up!

We all went on inside to wait it out and enjoyed recapping the day over a glass.

Great Weekend!

Bev and I drove our 1913 Buick 792 miles this summer, counting official tours and not test drives, ice-cream runs, getting lost or just for fun.  Also does not include the miles in the truck and trailer getting to events in Michigan and Ontario.  The Buick ran well, without incident, and got us home every time.

Our last thing was the Old Car Festival at the Henry Ford.  I was so taken with the roadsters racing around the park that I turned our car into a sport touring by folding the top and windshield down.

Regards, Gary

Gee, I like the photo of Joyce and I remember the situation.  I always hear a person can not drive this type of car because of young people texting or trying to ruin our day by crashing into us but as you can see in the photo there is no one in sight.  I felt perfectly safe parking in the middle of the driving lane.  We had a lovely summer, a weekend at the Gilmore Museum, Retrofest in Chatham, On., an AACA/HCCA tour in Kingston. Back to the Bricks and the Old Car Festival.  Thanks for the memories, Gary

0913191301.thumb.jpg.92d898e720eb58cfbb97d4052c8c9ddc.jpgPlus 103 making 1,327 but with the odometer error correction I' ll say it is 1,300 so far.  Of course if I added the other two cars I'd be way over the goal but I am still trying to do it with this one car for this year. We will see. It is running fantastic!

Damn!  I am way behind.  lol.. but I did add another 110 last week ( adjusted by the 10% = 100 more)_  so I am currently at 1.400 with the '56.

However, congratulations Ben!  And thanks for participating!

Well, gathered a few more miles locally attending the Monday night Cruise-In.

Still warm enough to leave the top down but winds were up to 35 miles an hour and more than a few had jackets on.

The only other '58 Buick in Windsor came out tonight and people went from mine to his with some commenting they had never seen them before guessing if they were 57's or 56's but hey, that's part of the fun showing them off and educating.

IMG_5951.thumb.JPG.38106a6c4978dfb88e0af38a5073c71c.JPG

Had to wait till Tony came out and capture a shot or two of both cars.

IMG_5960.thumb.JPG.54380e05f17b42a8ec15856baa03352e.JPG

He has a very nice low mileage car but says he would trade me should I ever wish to...

Sorry Tony, one of my boys will be getting it when the time comes.

Had a bit of luck again on a draw for a lamp.

With having been away for my niece's wedding in Tennessee last weekend thought we would miss the last Monday night cruise-in of the year but as things turned out came home early and decided to attend (even though a bit tired).

Glad I did as it was jam packed!

Well over 250 cars and the McDonalds next door had to come over to say if cars didn't move out of their parking lot they would start towing cars in the next half hour...

Didn't hear of anyone being towed but the night went on.

IMG_6128.thumb.JPG.76440cd047447a91dbfe90c059949c52.JPG

The 50/50 hit a record high of 575 bucks and there were over 60 door prises drawn so most everyone was happy with the night.

My ticket came up and received a kit with hammer, screw drivers and allen keys which will go in the garage.

IMG_6129.thumb.JPG.8d55df8db148ae3e259e95b1188a9085.JPG

I know this Buick is a rod but it is nicely done.

While walking around I overheard two guys talking about going to Erieau on a run for lunch next Saturday which Cindy and I did awhile back. I asked if it was open to anyone and was told to stop by the mans house to get a map and details before Saturday.

Sweet, another road trip!

With this night being close to home the trip odometer read 199.0 when parked in the garage.

Got together Saturday after filling up for the group tour to Erieau.

The first stop was at the A&W in Comber for a rest stop and coffee (if needed).

IMG_6140.thumb.JPG.c3c9e2a8e053d91199f9384737ab1acc.JPG

Including us there were 12 cars and with introductions meeting a few new people we set out on the next leg.

IMG_6141.thumb.JPG.8c5b23f413f34012ae068f672fb614de.JPG

We brought up the rear of the group and enjoyed the scenery and view it presented.

IMG_6143.thumb.JPG.9d97278af3d5ccd5bb59f0c907363d7e.JPG

Arriving we all found parking plentiful and had a great lunch sitting with new friends and had great conversations.

IMG_6145.thumb.JPG.4826be74701cfc44fb551368c1e98ed3.JPG

Leaving one can't ignore the risen water levels of Lake Erie and hope the raised berms and heavy armour rock can do it's job.

IMG_6150.thumb.JPG.8f80bdbb55a71bd547ad7b09d0c83bb2.JPG

Taking smaller roads we arrived in Chatham for the obligatory rest stop.

IMG_6155.thumb.JPG.0342b82aabe05e6d80269d3f2173dbb3.JPG

The final leg of this trip was along the Thames River reaching to Lake St Clair and due to it's winding road didn't take pictures but was enjoyable at the slower speeds.

Cars dropped of as we got closer to home and we stopped at the City Marina again for a picture before fuelling back up and parking in the garage for the night.

Went to Cars and Coffee at my church yesterday.  Long ways from home, a whole 6 blocks for so.  30 cars showed up along with some bike.

Most interesting car was a Brand New Vette that had to be towed home because it did not go into drive.  Owner was not happy.

Also there was a 1970's era Honda 350. Hondas back then were a good bike to have.

Anyway using this to update milage   1206 miles this year.   Probably won't make the goal but I still have 2 more months to try.

Gassed up today with only 47 miles on the odometer. Making my total 1,447 so far. Did use it for a trip today but have to wait till later this week to fill it again. And I doubt I will make the goal this year.  I may have run into a new problem with wheel bearings again. Sheesh!

Replenished the gas supply from yesterday. Added 182 mile and subtracting my 10% adjustment puts me with just about 160 to add to the 1,447. So this lands me at 1,600 for this year. There is an outside chance for one more big trip tomorrow. ;)

I wasnt even trying this year as my top and windows were not working all year.  Top works now still have to sort the windows.  But, When I rebuilt the speedometer I reset it to zero.  When I started this year had a little less than 500 miles. I turned over 1000 miles this weekend.

Only drove 1076 miles this year in the Reatta...local car shows and cruise-ins.  I put it in storage on October 3rd.  Hope to do significant mileage next year as I intend to drive it to the BCA Nationals in Ohio along with local stuff.

So, I felt well enough this afternoon to take a short drive to a town called comfort and back...... about 30 - 35 miles.  On this trip is a Mexican cementarty.  They know how to do a grave sight.  It is a celebration and they decorate accordingly.  They have bottles of what the deceased drank, flowers, decorations and lots of other stuff.  A total change from the dull boring cementaries we are used to.

After a tough 5 days to complete contract work decided to get the Special out and take us for a ride.

Stopped at my in-laws grave site to pay respects.

It was a perfect setting to reflect on "our" inevitability.

Stopped again for "a moment".

Left for a drive in the county before heading home.

The trip odometer now reads 348.0 miles.
