Mercer
1934 dodge 6 cylinder , temp gauge stopped working last time I had the car out, the car didn't overheat and is now parked for the winter. I would like to resolve the problem during the storage months. What would be the first item to check? The needle moves up from bottom position a little but doesn't register the temp. edinmass
First thing is put some penetrating oil on the fitting that goes into the head or block. Your going to have to send it out to get fixed. There are some at home repair kits for them in the past, not sure if they are available today. You will probably need a new copper tube going to the bulb, and they are soldered on. There are several “temperature guage guys” that advertise in Hemmings and club publications. Keep soaking the fittings for a few days to a week, then take it apart. They repair people are usually busy, so it’s not too soon to send it out as it may take 60 or more days to get it back. Ed

HarryLime
Penetrating oil does not mean WD40.

Or you can try it yourself: https://www.ply33.com/Repair/tempgauge On the OP's '34 Dodge, there should be a freeze/welch/core plug in the head above the temperature sensing bulb. It may be hidden under a bracket for the horn if the horn is under the hood. It is likely that if you remove that plug you can help work the sensing bulb out from behind.
