Morgan Wright
What do people normally replace their torque ball leather with? Mine came off in 1 piece and I can theoretically re-use it, but I'd like something new. This leather is probably 100 years old.
ArticiferTom
Looks similar to Detroit universal covers .They had wire in end seam to lock in place and eyelets to lace up length . Most factory where black but green/ yellow afterwards . All components are available at a Michael's Craft store . Then time to get the wife involved sewing up . 39BuickEight
I used some canvas type material from Michaels for my shift boot on the side of the transmission.
DonMicheletti
Bobs has them listed for from '19 to '23. I think '18 and '19 are the same - but not positive

Hubert_25-25
Morgan, Do you have the inner felt seal in your torque ball rear housing as well as the leather boot? My 1925 Standard has no leather boot and uses a felt seal. A couple of things that I find interesting. - The torque ball used on the Standard car is not built to hold a leather outer boot. It does not have a groove to hold the leather in place. - The flat side of the torque ball cover is the top. On the 2 torque ball covers that I removed, the gap in the felt was at or near the bottom of the cut out groove. I would think that you would want the felt seal gap near the top so that it holds in oil. There are also 2 gaskets used (photo courtesy of Larry DiBarry) Hugh Edited November 25, 2018 by Hubert_25-25 (see edit history)
Morgan Wright
My flange has no flat edge, it's round all around. The felt also goes all the way around and there is no gap, and there is a felt retainer clip for the felt. I have a gasket between the torque ball and the third member, and a gasket for the flange at the transmission. I think the leather boot is just to keep the mud off. Larry Schramm
If leather lasted 100 years, why change? I doubt that you will outlive a new piece of leather. Edited November 27, 2018 by Larry Schramm (see edit history) 2
dibarlaw
This was the set up I saw on a 1924-45 I bid on. I copied it for my 1925-25. I used some left over rubber roofing.
