Vicente Sevillano
Hi from Spain: I show you a wonderful Buick Imperial in a Spanish classic car event last 28 of September… I hope you like it. Regards from Spain.

Larry Schramm
Is it a possible rename for the European market? Or does it say Special on the rear fender?
John_S_in_Penna
It is good to hear from one of our European friends! Vicente, Buick never used the name "Imperial." For many years (up to 1942 and then once again in 1958), "Limited" was the highest model of Buick. Other years, Roadmaster was the highest model. The nice Buick you pictured is from 1956 and is probably a Special, the lowest model of Buick. Thank you for sharing the picture. John_S_in_Penna
6 minutes ago, Larry Schramm said: Is it a possible renaming for the European market? Or does it say Special on the rear fender? I have the book Seventy Years of Buick, and there is no mention of renaming any Buick models for the European market. Buick's exports were quite few at that time. Edited November 4, 2018 by John_S_in_Penna (see edit history)
Joseph P. Indusi
I agree with the above posts regarding the model name Imperial. But could it be a European term for a four door sedan? This looks to be a 4 door with a B pillar that tends to look more formal than the hardtop. Just a guess. Joe, BCA 33493
Pete Phillips
Definitely a Special, with the three portholes in the fender. All other series in 1956 had four portholes in the fender. Looks like it is in beautiful condition.
NTX5467
A nice '56, no doubt! Somebody might have added an "Imperial" name plate somewhere in the car's prior life, but it didn't come from Buick with one. Chrysler Imperials were sold in Europe by Chrysler dealers/brokers over there. Chrysler had the name "Imperial" trademarked since they first used it in the earlier 20th Century. A Buick "fit for an Imperialist"? A picture of the name plate on the car would be nice and would certainly help us identify the car it came from. Thanks for sharing that picture! avgwarhawk
May simply be a bad translation from a translation app. Whatever the case, nice looking Buick!
KongaMan
The word Special could look a lot like the word Imperial, especially if it's written in some goofy font and you're not familiar with what it's supposed to say. You see folks confuse Special and Century all the time -- and Imperial looks a lot closer to Special than Century does.
Leif Holmberg
Never ever heard of Buick Imperial here in Sweden, and I don`t think they have heard that in the rest of Europa ether. Leif in Sweden.
